Akaal Takht Jathedar addresses Muslims’ concerns over safety in India

Akaal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh Ji met with Muslim leaders in Amritsar this week to address concerns for the safety of minorities in India.

Giani Harpreet Singh Ji, who occupies the highest office in the Sikh religion, assured a delegation led by chairman of the Delhi minority commission Zafarul Islam Khan that Sikhs were with Muslims in efforts to maintain communal harmony in the country.

“Muslim leaders have come to Akal Takht Sahib today and they have discussed the state of affairs in country,” said Giani Ji. “They have described how there is sentiment of fear among the minorities in country.”

He agreed that there is a feeling of insecurity among minorities in India.

“If Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists have the same duty towards the country, then they must have equal rights as well. It cannot be that everyone has the same duty but only one community has rights.”

The Akal Takht Jathedar also welcomed Citizenship Amendment Act, but with a provision that Muslims must be included in it. He added that while he appreciated the efforts of the Muslim delegation to meet Sikh leaders, they should also meet Hindu leaders and discuss this issue in the same way.

“There are many factions among Hindus who don’t like what is going in this country either” he added.
